This two-phased project for the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) will repave a two-mile segment of Lake Otis Parkway between Abbott Road and Huffman Road. Phase 1 of the project (Abbott Rd to O’Malley Rd) was completed in 2024. Phase 2 (O’Malley to Huffman) is currently in design. (This is a separate project from the Lake Otis Parkway project between Abbott Road and Huffman Road). The project is currently funded with Municipal bonds approved by Anchorage voters as part of the MOA’s annual general obligation bond election.
This project will rehabilitate the pavement along Lake Otis Parkway between Abbott Road and Huffman Road. The pavement surface is showing signs of distress (raveling, potholing, rutting) and is deteriorating. In addition, most of the curb ramps do not meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and the pathway is showing signs of failure. The purpose of this project is to improve roadway drivability and upgrade pedestrian facilities to meet ADA standards.
Phase 1 of the project, from Abbott Road and O’Malley repaved Lake Otis Parkway, replaced guardrail and curb ramps, repaired/replaced the storm drains where needed, and repaired the sidewalk and pathway. In addition, a flashing yellow arrow (FYA) for left turns was installed at Rives Court.
Phase 2 of the project (between O’Malley and Huffman Road) will include the same improvements as Phase 1. In addition, the road is being re-striped to three lanes (two lanes in each direction with a center left turn lane) with wide shoulders that can accommodate a bike lane in the summer and snow storage in the winter.
